A glistening tree, desks decorated with tinsel and senses engulfed by the smell of warm spices and pinecones – Christmas is just around the corner and IceBlue is feeling festive.
As part of our celebrations, we normally send Christmas presents to our clients. Last year we offered a personal touch and made sweet jars with handwritten gift tags and eye-catching labels. This year, instead of sending presents we will be donating to two incredibly worthwhile charities, Operation Santa in Dudley and Wyre Forest Night Stop in Kidderminster.
A staggering 15,000+ children in Dudley live below the poverty line and face a bleak Christmas with no presents to open and little to celebrate. It is through Operation Santa, an annual toy and food appeal run by Dudley Council for Voluntary Service (Dudley CVS), that these children can receive presents, have a Christmas dinner and experience the excitement of being a child at Christmas.
The appeal has been putting smiles on the faces of disadvantaged children for a number of years and is funded purely by the generosity of kind-hearted businesses and members of the public.
Last year at IceBlue, we raised money through our ‘dress down Friday’ initiative, whereby the team had the option to wear home clothes on a Friday and then had to contribute at least one pound to our charity collection. As the year went on, we raised enough money to buy present bag after present bag, filled to the brim with cuddly toys, games, gift sets and delicious food to give to the children.
Wyre Forest Night Stop
This year we will also be donating to the Wyre Forest Night Stop, a charity based in Kidderminster that provides safe, emergency accommodation for homeless young people between the ages of 16 and 25.
No one should ever be in a position where they have to live on the streets, least of all at Christmas. The Wyre Forest Night Stop offers a safe place to stay in the home of one of the charity’s volunteer hosts, who will provide homeless young people with a hot meal, bed and breakfast in the morning. The charity’s staff are on call whenever people may need them and aim to provide a solution to those who have utilised their services.
